Vice President – Institutional Practice
Our Dallas, TX office has a dynamic Vice President – Institutional Practice opportunity for a Texas-registered architect. This role is for a senior architectural leader who is able to build the business, maintain strong client relationships, and grow and mentor design teams, leading them through all project phases including business and client development, proposal writing, contract negotiations, design and construction documents, and construction administration This position works directly with the Practice Area Leader and/or discipline leads through the above phases of business and project development as well as supporting the practice area vision for strategic growth.
The successful candidate needs at least 15 years of professional experience in commercial and institutional architecture. They will have excellent communication and leadership skills, and the ability to ensure exceptional project delivery for clients. Responsibilities:
- Provide input on and execute the strategic vision for the practice area’s local market
- Develop and maintain client relationships
- Actively pursue new business opportunities by utilizing their network
- Assist market sector teams in preparing proposals, calling on new and prospective clients, and participating in new project presentations
- Negotiate contracts
- Act as primary contact for the client and oversee project teams, providing oversight to project managers, project architects and project designers
- Maintains project budgets and schedules while meeting client needs, business objectives and design guidelines
- Mentor project team and foster positive team spirit that supports everyone’s efforts to succeed
- Ensure staff adheres to policies, practices and procedures
- Monitor internal staffing needs and coordinate client staff and their internal customers, architects, engineers, contractors and vendors
- Write proposals, recommend appropriate fees, and participate in contract negotiations with clients and consultants
- Manage bid or contractor selection process
Qualifications:
- Bachelor of Architecture from a NCARB accredited program
- Registered Texas Architect, or ability to acquire Texas registration via reciprocity
- Minimum 15 years of experience in architectural design, construction administration and project management
- Proven business development experience
- Excellent leadership skills and ability to grow and lead teams
- Good verbal communication and presentation skills
- Ability to prioritize and deliver multiple projects with varying deadlines
- Strong technical capabilities with code knowledge and ability to convey technical issues and design ideas
- Ability to oversee preparation of architectural documents and specifications for projects
- Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite; knowledgeable to direct staff in effective use of Revit including coordinated 3D BIM modeling of component systems, AutoCAD for 2D designs, and software for rendering and imagery of concepts and designs
- Positive leadership and mentoring abilities that foster a motivated team environment
- Advanced knowledge of current building design and construction means, methods and techniques
- Knowledge of architectural history and current architectural design discourse
- Awareness of sustainable design approaches
- LEED Accredited is a plus

Physical Requirements:
