Transportation Department Manager

Position Announcement:

The position is available in any of our three Montana offices in Helena, Bozeman, or Billings.

Specific job duties include
  • Active in a team leadership role with the Department Technical Lead
  • Provide recommendations to office manager for staffing needs.
  • Motivate and recognize employees.
  • Provide oversight of the financial health of all projects within the department.
  • Serve as Project Engineer or Project Manager on design projects.
  • Responsible for client management.
  • Set goals and benchmarks for the department
  • Define target markets and develop marketing strategies for the department to promote department growth.
  • Provide resources to the Project Managers to meet project deadlines and budgets.
  • Meet with Project Managers weekly to discuss project status, upcoming deliverables, deadlines, and any challenges or outstanding issues.
  • Provide mentoring and training opportunities to Project Managers within the department and develop opportunities for career growth and advancement.
  • Promote an open environment being approachable for mentoring and guidance on management and co-worker issues.
  • Manage backlog in the department, balancing marketing with workload needs, growth goals and profit.
  • Assist the Technical Lead in their role of providing technical guidance to staff, quality control for projects and deliverables.
  • Participate in community/business related activities.
  • Work with the Technical Lead in developing the Department Tactical Plan to create a sustainable and successful business model for the firm’s practice by setting department business goals/benchmarks.

Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
  • Technical knowledge of transportation related projects, including the preparation of drawings, details and technical deliverables.
  • Knowledge of management skills; including finance, marketing, and people management.
  • Skill and experience in staff supervision and project management.
  • Ability to establish and maintain mentoring relationships with department staff.

Required Education and Experience: 
B.S. in Civil Engineering, Licensed Professional Engineer (P.E.), minimum of 8 years of engineering experience.
